Route/Site Selection and Impact StudiesCAI's engineering and environmental staffs are well-versed in the routing/siting and licensing of transmission lines and substations in all types of environments, from agricultural areas, to congested urban areas, to mountainous regions. Our environmental personnel specialize in the selection of routes and sites that minimize environmental impacts and conform to regulatory requirements.
We also assist clients in obtaining approvals and licenses required for the construction of their projects. This generally involves preparation of applications and development of conceptualized engineering products. CAI routinely prepares thorough permit applications for submission to agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rural Utilities Service, various state environmental departments and public service commissions, and local municipalities.
Environmental AnalysesWetland Delineations - We map and describe wetlands using procedures prescribed by federal and state permitting agencies and prepare permit applications for submission to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer and state agencies.
Rare Species Studies - We review records of reported sightings of rare wildlife and vegetation species and plot the locations of habitats to determine if a project will affect known sites; conduct pedestrian field searches; and map unique habitats, prepare quantitative vegetation estimates, and assess existing ecological conditions.
Visual Impact Analysis - We assess the visual impact of a project as it relates to residents, motorists, and visitors in the vicinity of the project.
Electromagnetic Field Studies - We conduct electromagnetic field (EMF) studies to determine existing field levels and to design a means of reducing the levels in areas inhabited by humans. We also make calculations for proposed electrical installations regarding EMF levels, potential interference with radio and televisions signals, corrosion, and noise and suggest ways to reduce anticipated electrical effects.
