Organizational:

This position reports to the assigned supervisor.

Objective:

Under the close and immediate supervision of an engineering mentor, Engineer - Team Contributor 1 performs routine aspects of engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. Key contributions include performing basic calculations, studies, drawing preparation, and providing technical support to construction staff. This role is largely focused on the ongoing development and application of knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
  • Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis.
  • Develops understanding of assigned client standards, policies and procedures by reading and applying specific design guides, standards, systems and applicable engineering codes.
  • Develops an understanding and complies with Commonwealth Associates quality program.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required. Engineer-In-Training certification preferred. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.

Objective:

The experienced Engineer 4 develops and applies engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex and unique engineering problems. A person in this role is recognized as a key internal reference point for technical guidance through depth and breadth of knowledge and may be required to provide technical guidance over a group of colleagues, CAD, and administrative staff on projects of medium to high complexity. This role is also responsible for developing, validating, and presenting technical output and may provide leadership for development of deliverables to clients. People management responsibilities include supervising a group of engineers, CAD, or administrative staff working on medium-scope single or multi-discipline projects, or personnel of an operations department. Management responsibilities may extend to multiple locations and includes accountability for talent development, quality work production, and overall compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing system analysis on transmission and distribution systems including distribution optimization
  • Designing distribution substations
  • Fault analysis including designing and specifying protective relaying and fuse coordination
  • Preparing and reviewing distribution construction standards
  • Preparing construction work plans and cost estimates
  • Reviewing distribution overhead and underground construction
  • Performing underground distribution cable sizing and underground distribution system design including specifying conductors, transformers and switching
  • Designing and specifying secondary services
  • Planning for distribution upgrades including Smart Grid implementation
  • Providing consulting services regarding compliance with NESC codes, stray voltage, and distribution system reliability

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required. Professional Engineer (PE) registration required. At least fifteen years of experience with an Electric Utility: system planning, distribution planning/standards, underground distribution, protection engineering, substation design, and/or systems operations. Professional Engineering license preferred. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States.
