Consumers Energy designed a 155 MW Wind Energy Facility in Tuscola County to help Consumers Energy meet state renewable energy requirements. The project involved a 345 kV transmission line interconnect to the wind facility. Commonwealth assisted Consumers Energy with right of way services. Commonwealth secured wind easement agreements, amendments to agreements, and power line easements. The project consisted of over 1000 parcels. Commonwealth obtained agreements and coordinated efforts of bat and weather monitoring towers for the facility.
Unfortunately, this project faced public opposition in Tuscola County. However, Commonwealth assisted with public relations of the project to help mitigate the public opposition and make the citizens of Tuscola County more at ease about the project. Lawsuits were prevented by obtaining small parcel agreements and compensating property owners who live near the wind turbines.
The project was successful and wind turbines started operating in 2014 without any written complaints.
