Development of 170 MW Combined Heat and Power Facility

Consumers Energy

Commonwealth assisted Consumers Energy, as the Owner’s Engineer, with the development of a 170 MW combined heat and power (CHP) facility. The facility is intended to export power to the electric grid while supplying 450,000 lb/hr of steam to a nearby thermal host. Commonwealth evaluated plant performance for numerous cycle configurations and combustion turbine technologies to determine the optimal design.

Commonwealth provided performance analysis and cycle design, electric and thermal demand analysis, and electric interconnection application support. Also, Commonwealth performed the preliminary electrical design and one-line diagram, preliminary mechanical design including process flow diagrams and water balances, and the site layout and general arrangement for the facility. Air permitting support and capital cost estimates were provided by Commonwealth.
